Jack and Mark were on Skype unpacking boxes. They laughed as they went through the boxes of their childhood.
"Look at what I found Jack!" Mark holds up an old baseball. Jack smiles.
"That looks really cool man!" Jack rummages through his box and pulls out a picture. "What's this?" Jack examines it as he slowly walks back to the computer.
"What'd you find Jack?" Mark asks as he walks closer to his computer.
"I found an old picture from high school? When I was in America?" Jack stared at the picture confused and looked back at Mark. His eyes widened as he looked back at the picture. "What the fuck."
"What's the picture Jack?" Mark asks, really interested in what Jack found. Jack says nothing as he holds the picture up to the camera so Mark can look at it.
"That’s me in high school..." Jack says as he looks at Mark.
"And that guy next to you looks just like me." Mark replies staring at the picture intensely. Jack calmly flips the picture over.
"It is you." Jack replies. Mark reads what written on the back.
"'Sean and Mark Freshman Year first day of school...' What the hell." Mark stared at the words as Jack stared at the picture. They both were confused.
“I don’t remember going to school in America… I think I would remember that.” Jack said, looking even more confused. Jack sat down the picture, cutting off Marks train of thought.
“I would have remembered my best friend from High School especially if he was Irish…” Mark said as Jack walked to his box and brought it to his desk. Jack sat down in his chair.
“Why do we not remember this?” Jack held up another photo of them two playing in the woods behind Mark’s house. Mark studied the picture.
“I don’t know… It’s really weird how we don’t remember any of this but it’s obvious we used to be best friends.” Mark said, confused. Mark went and grabbed his box doing the same as Jack. “Maybe I have pictures too and my mom just buried them in the box?” Jack nodded and was gathering up all the stray pictures scattered around the inside of his box not completely paying attention to Mark. He would every now and then show a picture.
“This is so weird…” Jack examined one picture and saw that it was Mark kissing Jack’s cheek and Jack went redder than a firetruck and quickly hid it in the stack of pictures Jack has.
“What did you find?” Mark questions, seeing Jack’s flustered face. Jack looked up.
“N-Nothing!!” Jack quickly says. Mark stares at him and Jack looks back down going back to the pictures. Mark starts to go through his box.
“Hey I found an old photo album.” Mark says pulling it out. Jack looks up and his face isn’t as red as it was earlier. Mark starts to go through it and finds more pictures of him and Jack. “It’s obvious we were best friends for sure now. I have some of the same pictures that you’ve shown me. And way more.” Mark pauses and his face starts to turn red. He found the same picture Jack found earlier.
“What did you find?” Jack questions. Mark shook his head and flipped the page to ignore the picture.
“It’s nothing don’t worry about it.” Mark says. Jack looks confused but continues to go through his box. He pulls out an old hat.
“What’s this?” Jack says holding it up. Mark looks at it. Jack glances down at the pictures and realizes in most of the pictures, Mark is wearing it. Mark looks back at the photo album shrugging and flips the page. He sees the hat. Mark looks back at his computer to see Jack putting on the hat. Mark smiles watching Jack. Mark looks away from the computer and focuses on the pictures. Mark finds a picture of him giving Jack the hat and pulls it out.
“Looks like I gave it to you Jack.” Mark says as he holds the picture up to the camera. Jack looks at it and smiles at the look on their faces. Mark was reading the back. “I gave it to you for your birthday it seems and it was my hat but you loved it so much.” Jack smiles and pulls the hat a little more over his face hiding his eyes.
“Well thank you Mark.” Mark smiled and nodded his head putting the photo back in the album and flips the page. Mark takes a sip of his drink and then sees a picture of him and Jack kissing and chokes on his drink becoming a blushing mess. Jack looks up alarmed. “You okay there Mark?” Jack asks, looking at Mark. Mark coughs and nods his head.
“Yeah soda went down the wrong pipe. Don’t worry.” Jack nodded his head still looking concerned. He looked back at the photos and smiled slightly seeing how happy him and Mark were back in high school. Jack carefully stacked the pictures correctly.
“How come you get a photo album and I get piles and piles of pictures.” Jack whines looking back at the flustered Mark. Mark looks up and shrugs his shoulders.
“Looks like our parents packed these and my mother always loved photo albums.” Mark replied laughing at Jacks whine and pouty face as he was still piling pictures. Jack wasn’t even really looking at them anymore. Mark chuckled and flipped the page in the photo album.
“Should we add our moms to the call to question them about the pictures?” Jack asks looking at one of them both dancing under the stars. Jack smiled happily looking at it. Mark looked away from the picture and looked at Jack and nodded his head.
“That does sound like a good idea. But should we call them separately or together?” Mark questions. Jack shakes his head to take his focus away from the picture.
“Together. So we can hear both sides and neither of us will try to change our mothers side to make the other happy.” Mark nodded his head.
“Is it early enough to add your mum?” Jack looked at the time and nodded his head.
“Is it late enough to add your mom?” Mark did the same as Jack. “Well lets add them in.” Mark and Jack simultaneously adds their moms to the call. They both answer on the third ring.
“Hello boys! This is a wonderful surprise!” Jack’s Ma says. Mark’s Mom nods her head.
“Hey Ma!” Jack says, smiling.
“Hey Mom!” Mark says, at the same time as Jack. Their moms wave.
“What brings you boys to call us both?” Mom asks. Mark looks at her.
“We decided to open the boxes you two gave us at the same time and we found some pictures of us in high school together and were confused since we didn’t remember them.” Mark replied.
“I thought that’s why you two would be calling.” Ma replies. Jacks nods his head.
“Why don’t we remember these Ma?” Jack holds up a picture of Mark and Jack playing in the park.
“You two were really upset when Jack moved back to Ireland and it caused you both to completely forget your Freshman and Sophomore years.” Mom says, looking at them. “After Jack moved away, and you forgot, we just decided to wait until you two remembered before we mentioned anything. When we learned you two were such close friends, we revealed the boxes of your high school stuff.”
“That explains a lot. I always saw a picture of me with another kid hidden in Ma’s drawer when I would be looking for something for her. I just never mentioned it because I figured she was hiding it for a reason.” Jack said looking at his Ma. Mark nodded his head.
“I saw pictures of Tom, another kid, and I hanging on the wall in your room and I now know who that mysterious kid is. I thought it was a friend of Tom’s that I was close with.” Mark said. He started going through the photo album. He found the picture of Mark kissing Jack’s cheek and pulled it out. “Can you two explain this?” He holds the picture up to the camera and Jack blushes now knowing Mark has seen it too. Their mothers look back and forth between them.
“You two were dating during your Sophomore year. That’s why Jack moving away affected you both so bad.” Mom said, looking at Jack’s blushing face. Ma nodded her head.
“You two were so cute together though. I’m really glad you two found each other 10 years later and became best friends again.” Ma and Mom stared at each other and nodded their heads. “We will let you two go so you can talk to each other about the information. Sorry about the picture mess Sean. You were upset when that box was packs and you took them out of the photo album. It should be at the very bottom of the box.” Both moms end their part of the call and Jack silently went through the box to get the photo album to put them all back in. He was still blushing.
“Jack.” Mark said, looking at Jack. He froze and looked up at Mark.
“Yes Mark?”
“Do you still like me?” Mark turned his head away to hide his blush. Jack nodded his head blushing.
“Y-Yeah… I still do…” Mark smiled and looked at Jack.
“Well I still do too.” Jack’s face broke out into a smile.
“I’m glad we found each other again.”
“I am too Jackaboy. I am too….”
